Bad breath treatment

Bad breath is a condition that bothers people. Bad breath can have many causes. If people notice the smell of their own breath, they should first consult a dentist. Bad breath generally occurs when oral hygiene is not taken care of. If bad breath does not go away despite regular oral hygiene, a doctor must definitely be consulted. The causes that can lead to bad breath can be summarised as follows.

What causes bad breath?

  • Morning breath is something that can happen to everyone. The smell goes away after brushing the teeth.
  • Bad breath may occur due to tooth and gum diseases. A person with this kind of complaint should definitely consult a dentist.
  • Bad breath may also occur due to upper respiratory tract disorders, stomach disorders and nasal polyps/adenoid problems. In such cases, the relevant doctors should be consulted.
  • Bad breath can also occur in situations such as the use of tobacco and tobacco products, alcohol use, diabetes, going hungry for a long time, dry mouth, fungal infection in the mouth and tonsillitis.

How can bad breath be eliminated?

If bad breath is caused by tooth or gum problems, daily oral hygiene should first be made a standard routine. Bad breath can be prevented by daily tooth brushing, mouthwash and the use of dental floss. People who maintain oral hygiene should definitely see a doctor if bad breath continues. To avoid bad breath and prevent tooth or gum diseases:

  • The teeth should be brushed twice a day for at least 3 minutes each time. The teeth should be brushed within half an hour at most after eating or drinking anything.
  • Using toothpastes containing fluoride is more effective in preventing bad breath.
  • The toothbrush should be changed at least every 3 months.
  • Mouthwash should be used once a day.
  • The spaces between the teeth should be cleaned with dental floss once a day. Despite tooth brushing, some food residues may remain between the teeth.

If the mouth still smells despite these measures taken to eliminate bad breath, a doctor must definitely be consulted.
